NAAPIMHA LAUNCHES VOTE FOR WELLNESS CAMPAIGN AHEAD OF 2024 ELECTIONS
In preparation for the 2024 Presidential Elections, the National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association (NAAPIMHA), a national nonprofit organization working to promote and redefine the mental health and well-being of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander individuals and communities nationwide, launched the Vote for Wellness campaign.
The Vote for Wellness campaign is committed to supporting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities get out the vote while centering their mental health and well-being during Election season. The goals of the initiative are to increase voter participation within AANHPI communities by 1) providing voter education and voter registration support to AANHPI individuals with mental disabilities and/or the loved ones who support them and 2) providing voter education through the lens of mental health policy to inform AANHPI voters of candidate positions on mental health.
Over the next year, NAAPIMHA will work with AANHPI-serving community based organizations across the country to conduct voter registration, voter education, and listening sessions to identify issues at the heart of AANHPI communities and help community members prepare their whole health - mind, body, and spirit - for the elections. With input and leadership from NAAPIMHA's National Asian American Pacific Islander Empowerment Network (NAAPIEN), a network of AANHPI individuals with lived experience, the campaign will center the voices of AANHPI individuals with lived experience through voter education webinars and resources. To kick-off the campaign, NAAPIMHA hosted a webinar featuring NAAPIEN Steering Committee Member and former Pulaski County Election Commissioner, the Honorable Joshua Ang Price, to speak on AANHPI Voting Rights and Voting with Lived Experience.
NAAPIMHA is seeking community ambassadors to join the Vote for Wellness Campaign. By signing up as a Vote for Wellness Ambassador, ambassadors would join a community of fellow mental health advocates supporting their communities in engaging in voter registration, education, and spaces of wellness this upcoming year. Meetings will begin in January 2024. For more information, contact vote@naapimha.org.
