H.R. 2497 the Amache National Historic Site Act was passed overwhelmingly in Congress by a vote of 406-16 and passed by a unanimous vote in the Senate.
President Biden will sign the bill tomorrow making it a part of the National Park System. Amache was one of the concentration camps used to house Japanese Americans who were forcefully removed from their homes by Executive Order 9066 during WWII.
This accomplishment comes from the efforts of more than 60 Japanese-Americans who survived the camp and had lobbied for the designation.
