Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Workgroup Announces its First Scientific Conference/Workshop:

“Translational Addiction Research –
Bench to Bedside, Community, and Back”

February 12-13, 2007
Santa Monica , California

 
 

The conference/workshop will showcase AAPI research (translational and in community-based settings) and highlight applications of translational addiction research among Asian and Pacific Islander populations in international studies, while focusing on the career development of the next generation of health and addiction researchers.

Plenary sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Biological basis of substance abuse and implications for AAPI populations
  • HIV/AIDS risks, neuroAIDS, and interventions for AAPI communities
  • Epidemiology of tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use among AAPI populations
  • Mental health and other co-morbid issues
  • Substance abuse prevention and treatment
  • Methods for conducting research in AAPI communities
  • International research among Asian and Pacific Islander populations
  • Research career development
